Final Grade Calculator
Find the score you need on your final exam to reach your target grade.
📐 Required Final Score = (Target − Current Grade × Current Weight ÷ 100) ÷ (Final Weight ÷ 100)
The final grade calculator solves a specific problem every student faces before finals: "What do I need to score on the final exam to get the grade I want?" Given your current grade and the weight of the final exam, it calculates the minimum final exam score needed to achieve your target overall grade — and tells you if it is still mathematically possible.
📋 How to Use This Calculator
Enter your current grade percentage (based on completed assessments), the weight of the final exam as a percentage of the total grade, and your target overall grade. The calculator immediately shows the minimum score you need on the final. If the required score exceeds 100%, it shows you the highest achievable grade given your current standing and final exam weight.
💡 Key Facts & Information
Formula: Required Final Score = (Target Grade − Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight)) / Final Weight. Example: current grade 72%, final exam is 40% of course grade, target is 80%: Required = (80 − 72 × 0.60) / 0.40 = (80 − 43.2) / 0.40 = 36.8 / 0.40 = 92%. If the final exam is worth 50% and you are at 60%, you need: (80 − 60 × 0.50) / 0.50 = (80 − 30) / 0.50 = 100% — just barely possible. If required > 100%: the target grade is unachievable — the highest possible grade given current standing is: (Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight)) + (100 × Final Weight).
